It is important to recognise the need for perpetrators to take responsibility for their actions and provide new skills so they make effective changes in their lives. By utilising DBT skills, Bio-psychosocial and Bio-social therapeutic skills, I work with perpetrators to help them understand their negative emotions, consciousness and triggers to commit Domestic, Family and gender-based violence. Statistically, women are primarily the dominant victims and we emphasise supporting male perpetrators. Violence is a gender-based issue, so the aim is to help perpetrators understand its gendered nature by:
As a DFV clinical specialist, I understand that the range of types of violence and their impacts on women and girls occur on a continuum so that behaviours such as sexist jokes are seen as resulting from the same culture that enables physical and sexual assault, and murder of women and girls. This understanding explains why the impact of various kinds of abuse on women and girls increases with experiences and can affect their safety and well-being in different ways. We aim to provide a platform so they can change their behaviours.
